Increased Energy Efficiency
90% of all hot tub heat loss occurs at the waters surface. Without a spa cover your water is cooling, causing your tub to work harder to maintain your set temperature. When your set temperature drops it causes the pump to run and your heater to turn on. Your heater draws the most amperage out of any other part in your hot tub, so this will certainly increase your electric bill. The increased run time on the pump and heater can also reduce their operating life.
Evaporation is another concern for folks that don’t have a cover. With no protection above the water line your water will evaporate quicker. A low water level, which if unchecked, can damage your spas equipment. Additionally, the frequent need to “top off” your spa will increase your water and chemical usage. Get Covered!
Why Is My Water Green??
We’ve gone over some very important reasons to have a spa cover but don’t want to leave out the water quality aspect. Without a spa cover your tub will welcome leaves, twigs, bugs, frogs, rainwater and other airborne debris. Leaves can clog your filters, pumps and suctions, causing your spa to no longer heat or throw error codes. This additional debris can increase your total dissolved solids, which will throw your chemistry out of whack. Lastly, sunlight will eventually cause algae and a green slimy coating on your shell, yuck! Controlling this algae will also add another chemical to your maintenance regiment.

A common complaint from our customers is that the bulkiness or weight of their spa cover makes them not want to have one.
